This does a fair job of summing up the worst of the problems with the famous John 3:16. I’m sure I could think of a couple of more if I put my mind to it. Somewhere in the mind of a Christian, these words hold a special power. I have NEVER been able to see beyond the elementary logical flaws.

It’s not that I take the Bible seriously as a book. I don’t. The scary thing is that so many others take it seriously. There is no way in heck that it can be call “The Good Book” by any stretch of the imagination. Those who ask atheists to “just read the Bible” clearly haven’t read it themselves.

…also blatantly wrong on promoting slavery, rape, genocide, pillage and plunder, denying equal rights for women, commanding the murder of disobedient children or gays…the creation myth, history, a worldwide flood that topped Mt Everest, banning the mixing of fabrics and crops, and…bacon…
If it’s ethically repugnant or scientifically laughable, then it’s “just a story.” If it not as repugnant and can’t be proven one way or the other, then it’s the truth. Obvious.
